Dancer a Bird at Bendigo

Thursday, 14 July 2011

Last start Bendigo winner Prussian Dancer is rising seven but part-owner and trainer Jodee Bird is in no hurry to send her to the breeding barn.

Prussian Dancer won the Zupaone@Hollylodge Hcp (1400m) over her pet trip last week and she will attempt a running double over the same course and distance in a Country Showcase next Thursday, July 21

“All her wins have been over 1400 metres,” Bird said.  “She wins like an extra furlong will be no trouble but just doesn’t get a mile.”

Prussian Dancer (6m King Of Prussia - Delatite Miss by Druid's Lodge) was bred by Kay Ritchie and is raced on lease by Bird along with Ron, Dee and Ben Healey, Matt Versteegen and Neil Wood.

“She’s a real trier and doesn’t really need much work,” Bird explained.  “She keeps herself fit and last week’s slow track at Bendigo suited her down to the ground.”

Based at Wangaratta, Jodee currently has 7 in work including Super Cali, a lightly raced King Of Prussia mare who is just back from a spell.

Her husband John is a farrier and the couple have enjoyed lots of success with Greta West stallions before Prussian Dancer came along.

Toy Pindarri mare Petite Lille won 10 races and Jodee trained her to a career-high victory at Sandown Hillside in August 2006.  Luck In Toyland was another Toy Pindarri and he won at Wagga last season as a rising nine year-old!

Bird is hoping for another Slow 7 at Bendigo next Thursday.  “If Prussian Dancer runs well we will get her ready for a midweek race at Sandown.  She loves racing and, at this stage, we will keep her in work for another year.”

In the meantime, Kay Ritchie will book her dam Delatite Miss back to King Of Prussia this year.
