New season Knockout for King of Prussia

Tuesday, 16 August 2011

King Of Prussia opened his winner account for 2011-12 at Wangaratta on Sunday with Prussian Knockout.

The Brian Cox trained mare led home a King Of Prussia quinella when she defeated Limerick Rose by a half-length in the Homelectrix Hcp (1100m)

King Of Prussia (Anabaa) finished the 2010-11 season with the winners of 83 races in Australia.  That placed him fifth among Victorian based sires behind Bel Esprit, Bianconi, Dash for Cash and Reset.

Prussian Knockout missed the kick but railed up behind the leaders approaching the corner at Wang.  Jockey Jason Benbow waited for a split at the top of the straight but, when that didn’t happen, he switched wide and the mare did the rest.

“She’s part-owned by Connor Barton and Heath McLean are they’re having a good run with her,” Cox said.  “She won on a Heavy 9 last time so we will keep her fresh and keep her on wet tracks.”

Prussian Knockout (5m King Of Prussia - Just A Knockout by Voltage Peak) was bred by Karen Piergrosse and, at $2,250, was a bargain buy from the 2008 Inglis Autumn yearling sale.

Piergrosse also bred her older half-sister Rustie Bugles who has won 6 races around Albury / Wodonga.  She is trained by Peter Maher for Piergrosse, Kaye & Peter Maher and Marg & Geoff Binder.

“Rusty Bugles is named after my late father and she can be a moody bitch at times,” Piergrosse explained.  “She seems to reserve her best for lady riders, too.”

Just A Knockout has a yearling colt by King Of Prussia and will be bred back to Man Of Illusion this year.  “Both her fillies are leggy types and Man Of Illusion will put a bit of bulk on them.  I’ll also send her half-sister Alice In Toyland to him this year.”

Man Of Illusion (Encosta de Lago) is an Australian bred sprinter who was a stakes winner at Churchill Downs.  He will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee at Greta West this year.
