Vow of Faith a bonus for Burke

Friday, 6 July 2012

Connections of Keep The Faith mare Vow Of Silence were upbeat about her future following a last-start victory in the Brendon McCoull Plate (1200m) in Launceston.

Vow Of Silence (4m Keep The Faith - Diamond Orchid by Final Card) shared the lead and, when given more rein by jockey Kelvin Sanderson in the straight, responded for a comfortable three length victory.

“She’s a work in progress,” trainer Adam Trinder said.  “She suffered from travel sickness so we had to tip her out for three months to recover.”

Vow Of Silence was part of a win-a-day run for Keep The Faith last week.  The Greta West resident sired six winners from the eastern seaboard across to Perth where his promising filly Split The Faith was successful at Belmont Park.

Vow Of Silence is a homebred for Nikki Burke and is from the Cranbourne trainer’s provincial winner Diamond Orchid.  Burke sold the mare’s first foal to Hong Kong after he scored on debut at Yarra Glen.  Now named Longwah Kid, he is with Casper Fownes and won at Happy Valley in January.

Vow Of Silence is the second and Burke was always going to keep her for stud duties.  “She’s well bred but should have at least another season racing,” Trinder explained.  “She’s adaptable, sound and competitive and there’s plenty of upside to work with.”

Burke transferred the mare on the recommendation of Trinder’s partner Leah Goodrick.  “Nikki has always had a good opinion of the mare,” Trinder added.  “But she went by the wayside every time she looked like winning in Victoria.

“The mare has been Leah’s special project and I think we will reap some financial benefits with her reasonably quickly.”

Keep The Faith (Sunday Silence) will stand for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee at Greta West this year.
