God’s Own turned the corner into June by siring a winning city double within minutes on Saturday.
Disciple (Rosehill) and Almighty Bullet (Morphettville) opened their winter accounts after last-start wins in May.
month was a busy one for God’s Own. After moving to Greta West Stud
midway through May, his strike-rate spiralled with 12 winners in the
Sydney based Disciple helped spark the winning
streak at Rosehill on May 11 and was back on home turf with an even
easier victory in the Catholic Trade Training Hcp (1200m) on June 1.
“He’s got a great turn of foot,” trainer Chris Waller said. “He just
keeps improving since we’ve kept him to sprint trips this year.”
(4g God’s Own – Myrrh by Nassipour) is beginning to blossom with the
benefit of three previous preps starting with a sighter as a July two
year-old at Warwick Farm. Returning as an autumn three year-old, he won a
Gosford maiden and then broke through in town at Canterbury.
another spell, Waller brought him back for a Warwick Farm win over
1600m in December before an injury in the barriers put him on the ropes
at Rosehill. “He banged his forehead and near-side knee in the gates,”
Waller recalled. “He was passed fit but it was a very heavy track that
day and he floundered in the going.
“Luckily, he showed enough
early on for us to persevere,” Waller added. “I guess he will creep up
to 1400m but not any further. He’s going well at 1200m and Saturday wins
mean good money for owners.”
Disciple was a $100,000 buy for
part-owner Colm Santry at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions and the
last two Rosehill collects have boosted his earnings to $240,000.
Saturday’s result, TVN anchor Carolyn Searcy tapped into a prevailing
point of view about God’s Own. “That was a very impressive win,” Searcy
said. “They’re saying God’s Own gallopers come good when given time and
Disciple is a good example of that.”
