New tactics suit Mexborough Boy
Saturday, 18 July 2015

Keep The Faith sprinter Mexborough Boy enjoyed a change in tactics to come out on top of a Class 4 field in Singapore on Friday.

Normally settled off the pace by Oscar Chavez, he bounced into a handy position and then produced the best turn of foot to go all the way to the line at Kranji.  “It was Oscar’s idea to try and settle him in the front three,” trainer Theo Kieser said.  “Some horses don’t like the dirt flying up on a rainy day.”

Mexborough Boy (4g Keep The Faith - Manzie De Lago by Encosta de Lago) had over a length to spare at the wire from Argentine-bred Bellus Wonder (Dancing For Me) and Golden Tomahawk (Turffontein).

Chavez played down his part in the winning strategy saying you still need to have the right tools to get the job done.  “When the rain came in, I knew there would be too much kickback so I got him going early on.  He rolled on from the 600m mark and around the 350m, he went at it 100% all the way.”

Mexborough Boy was a $31,000 buy from Basinghall Farm at the 2012 Inglis Melbourne Autumn yearling sale and has earned S$214,120.  His sire Keep The Faith stands at Greta West Stud for a $4,400 (inc gst) fee.
