Cup day surface suits Concrete Johnny
Friday, 26 February 2016

Concrete Johnny can perform on any surface and a Heavy 8 didn't present any problems on Launceston Cup day.

The God's Own sprinter won the Launceston City Council Hcp (1200m) with a perfectly-timed gallop under Raquel Clarke.  "It was a super ride in front," trainer Terry Evans said.  "And he's such a brave horse to tough it out."

Concrete Johnny (4g God's Own El Milagro by Encosta De Lago) had raced in the LR Gold Sovereign at the 2014 Launceston Cup meeting but faded badly in the straight after taking a tearaway lead.

"Back then, I expected him to develop into a very good horse later on," Evans recalled.  "He's a pleasure to have in the stable."

Concrete Johnny is by Greta West Stud sire God's Own from a mare who won races at Sandown and Moonee Valley.  He's a younger brother to Tasmanian Guineas winner Inner Warrior and they've earned over $270,000 for syndicate manager Adam Upton and the Horse Racing Tragics.
