Multi-purpose mission for Honey Steel's Gold
Friday 24 February 2017

Honey Steel's Gold is being set for a unique double after returning to winning form in the Marong Cup (2200m) at Bendigo last Saturday.

Lindsay Park's son of Keep The Faith is a multi-purpose galloper on the flat or over tall timber and among his assignments are the $400,000 Adelaide Cup (3200m) on March 13 and $100,000 Von Doussa Steeplechase (3250m) on April 15.

"He looks a picture and is one very happy horse," Lindsay Park's racing manager Rayan Moore said this week.  "He's trained on perfectly since Bendigo and there are a few fall-back options besides the Adelaide Cup and Oakbank."

Honey Steel's Gold (6g Keep The Faith ¿ Lunar Lights by Bianconi) is nothing if not versatile.  He was a Listed 2yo winner of 2013 Gibson-Carmichael Stakes (1600m) at Flemington and stretched out to land last year's South Australian Grand National Hurdle (3500m) at Morphettville.

A homebred for John and Michelle Valmorbida, he's an older half-brother to the Graham Begg trained Red Right Hand (Ilovethiscity) who is knocking on the door after a close-up second in a Sale maiden last week.

Keep The Faith (Sunday Silence) won the Listed Schweppervescence Cup at Caulfield for Lindsay Park.  He stands at Greta West Stud for owners Laurie & John McCarthy and they have catalogued two yearlings by first-season sires through Bucklee Farm's draft at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

Their Fighting Sun colt (Lot 559) is from Melbourne winning Stravinsky mare Lady Phoebe.  Her 2yo colt Disruptive (Reset) was an $80,000 buy for Perth trainer Lindsey Smith at last year's Melbourne Premier and he is ready to debut after winning a Belmont barrier trial earlier this month.

Greta West's Unencumbered - Firhill filly (Lot 748) is a half-sister to 6 winners including Two Hills who earned over $360,000 in Melbourne for Allan & Val Browell, Kate Glass and Horrie West.
